The Eel Pie Island Museum brings this history to life - come and see just what this little island in the centre of Twickenham has to offer in the way of musical and river-related heritage!


Address: 1-3 Richmond Road, Twickenham, TW1 3AB (opposite the Civic Centre, next to the Shell garage).

BUSES

33, 290, 490, H22, R68, R70 - stops are 1-minute walk from Museum (on Richmond Rd/York St)

110, 267, 281 - stops are a 2-minute walk away (on London Rd)


TRAIN

Twickenham Station is a 5 minute walk away


TUBE

Nearest tube is at Richmond (District Line).

Twickenham Station is two stops on the train.

Richmond Station, then take a bus from the bus stop directly outside to Lebanon Court stop which takes you to within sight of the museum (approx. 10 mins journey time): 490, H22, R68, R70 (very regular buses).

CAR PARKING

Pay & Display Richmond Council parking directly opposite the Museum in the York House car park (TW1 3AA).

Additional council-run car parks can be found within a 3-minute walk of the Museum:

  • Arragon Rd TW1 3NG (behind Waitrose)

COACH PARKING

Group bookings are available by prior arrangement only. Larger group bookings take place OUTSIDE OF USUAL OPENING TIMES. Please do not turn up with a large group unannounced - we are only a small museum!


★ We can host private visits for groups of 8 to 40 people.


★ Group visits take place outside of our usual opening hours, giving exclusive access to the Museum, with our friendly, knowledgeable volunteers on hand to chat and inform.

A guided museum tour/mini presentation and tea, coffee and biscuits are all included in the price.


★You can also add on a 'Slice of Eel Pie' local Walking Tour to complement your museum visit.

★ £12 per person for exclusive museum access only.

£19 per person with Walking Tour.

Both options  include a museum tour/mini presentation plus tea/coffee and biscuits! 

(Visitors have the option to upgrade to Annual Membership for £5 on the day. Our members enjoy unlimited access for a year, plus 15% discount on food at the Eel Pie Pub.)

Walking Tours

'A SLICE OF EEL PIE' – Twickenham's bohemian past and present, told on a stroll through historic Church Street and the Embankment, overlooking Eel Pie Island.

★ ‘EEL PIE & BLUES' - Take a wander back through Twickenham's musical past with our guide with first hand experience of Eel Pie back in the day.


Scheduled WALKING TOURS will resume in April 2026


If you wish to book a private walking tour please get in touch. These are £19 per person, for a minimum of 4 people, including same-day museum entry.

Visiting Eel Pie Island

Please note: Eel Pie Island is private and we do not take groups over there.

Look out for the biannual Eel Pie Artists Open Studios events. These are usually late June and early December.

Private walking tours for can be booked (for 4 - 20 participants), taking in the best views of Eel Pie Island, as seen from Twickenham’s Embankment. 


All walks include same-day entrance to the Museum.

Our walking tours are very much a leisurely stroll of around half a mile.

Lightweight, fold-up ‘walking stools’ are available on request.

There are no steps on our tours.


During the walk, each participant has use of a 30-page A4 folder packed with images of ‘then’ and ‘now' from the Museum's Archives to illustrate the tour.


A walking tour typically lasts 45-60 minutes.

We offer talks on various aspects of Eel Pie Island history, and all our presentations are extensively illustrated with images from the Museum’s Collection.

★ ‘A SUBURB LESS ORDINARY' - The infamous Eel Pie Island Jazz Club may have outraged prevailing conservative thinking...but was it really anything out of the ordinary for sleepy, suburban Twickenham?

Taking you on a  sweeping journey that sets the scene for the Eel Pie Island of the sixties and beyond, this presentation is illustrated throughout.
